Mary and Eli Chartkoff are mainstays of the Los Angeles DIY music scene. From 2002 to 2012 they lead The Monolators, the beloved Eastside rock and roll institution that put out 8 records and played with, seemingly, every band in LA. They ran the First Fridays concert series that began at Mr. T's Bowl (RIP) in Highland Park. In 2014 they revived the series at pehrspace in Historic Filipinotown, where, as Fourth Fridays, it continues to this day. Along with the Monolators they found time to play in Cobra Lilies, Ema and the Ghosts, Madame Headdress, Shirley Rolls, the LA Lottery League, and their current "Mini-Bands" series, temporary projects formed with friends that record one ep and play one show before disbanding.

When The Monolators folded in 2012 Mary and Eli traded in their drum kit for an iPad and continued as Dawn of Sequins. Eli and Mary carry on the Monolators' classic songwriting preoccupations but with drum machines, synths, guitars, and saxophones instead of the original drums/bass/guitar lineup. Still, the spirit is the same, and anyone familiar with their old band should feel at home here.

The first Dawn of Sequins album came out on Geoff Geis's Vanity Projects label in 2013; as of Spring 2016 Mary and Eli are in the midst of recording the second record (as yet untitled) and expect to release it early next year.
